New Patients

Your first visit will normally last around an hour. During this time your chiropractor:

• Will take a full case history
• May ask you to remove some of your clothes, and provide a gown if you are female, and one on request if you are male and feel uncomfortable without one.
• Will provide privacy for you to get changed.
• Will ask your written permission to give you a thorough physical examination, this will include neurological and orthopaedic tests.
• May order some x-rays or ultrasound scans if they are deemed clinically appropriate.

Before your treatment starts, we will explain to you in a clear way:

• What we found in your examination
• The Chiropractic treatment plan to address your problem
• The benefits and the risks associated with treatment for your problem and the proposed treatment plan

The receptionist or chiropractor will explain the cost of the treatment.

A chiropractor’s first concern is to find out what is wrong. They will also check for signs of any serious conditions for which you would need to go to your GP or to hospital.

Chiropractors are concerned with the framework of bones and muscles (musculo-skeletal system) and how they are moved and controlled by the nervous system (neuromusculo-skeletal system). Some musculo-skeletal problems can be caused by accidents, stress, lack of exercise, poor posture, illness and every day wear and repair. These problems can put pressure on the nerves in the body or interfere with the messages going from the brain to the muscles. This results in poor control, weakness, and pain from subsequent injury. 

Depending on your condition you may be manipulated in the spine and limbs to restore joint movement. You will be advised on tools for controlling pain and inflammation. We will work on the muscles and ligaments using massage, trigger point therapy, and dry needling as an option. You will also be advised on exercising, nutrition, and lifestyle. You may receive tape to help improve feedback from muscles that have become lazy and joints that aren’t functioning correctly.

Manipulation involves precisely handling or moving joints of the spine and limbs to restore movement. This involves stretching further than they are currently moving.

Our consultation lasts an hour and includes treatment. This is £70 for adults with a discount available for students.

Our treatments are 20 minutes long and are £48 with a discount for over 70s.

Chiropractic treatment is usually painless unless an area is inflamed (swollen). If this is the case we will alter the treatment to take this into account. You will often but not always hear a popping sound when one of the joints is manipulated- this is normal with this type of therapy.

Rarely, do patients have mild reactions after manipulation or feel tender after the dry needling or exercising the area. The risks of this will be explained to you before treatment commences. If you feel unsure of any aspect regarding your treatment please let us know, as we are here to listen and help you understand and recover well.

Treatment is a partnership between us as Chiropractors and you as the patient. If we work together, you will get the best results possible for your particular condition.

Feel free to ask us as many questions as you need to, to be sure that you understand what we have told you. We will then ask for your consent. To help you feel more at ease we may request, or you are free to request a chaperone. If on the other hand, you would prefer no one to be there with you please let us know as well, so that your privacy may be maintained.

This will depend on:

• Your condition
• How severe it is
• How long you have it
• How well you respond to treatment
• How much you follow our support advice

We will review your progress regularly and any changes to the plan of management will be discussed and then your consent for these will be obtained. If your problem does not improve we will carry out further investigations or refer you to your GP if the problem does not improve.
